El Gastrónomo Vagabundo Eat St. Viewing Party

May 31, 2012 | By More

The Cookbook Store in Toronto recently hosted a viewing party for local food truck favorite El Gastrónomo Vagabundo‘s Eat St. debut.

El Gastrónomo Vagabundo offers a new take on street food, offering a continuously changing menu of internationally inspired gourmet cuisine featuring gourmet tacos, tapas, southeast Asian dishes, and garden fresh salads. EGV is run by Australian chef Adam Hynam-Smith and his partner Tamara Jensen. Adam and Tamara and their hardworking team kept the crowd fed all night with an assortment of delectable goodies.

The El Gastrónomo Vagabundo Eat St. viewing menu featured a couple of EGV classics as well as some innovative new items.

The night started off with a refreshing beverage. A combination of cucumber puree, tonic, hibiscus syrup and flower, fresh cucumber and mint. There was also a watermelon option.

First up was the crumbed pickled lamb tongue with chili mint relish and pickled fennel. An intriguing concept packed full of flavour and texture.

Up next was the tempura cod with pineapple and habanero hot sauce, coconut crème sûre and cilantro.

As a tribute to Frank Camorra and Richard Cornish’s MoVida, EGV served up a white anchovy, tomato, olive and palm heart skewer. “MoVida”, an ode to spanish ingredients and cooking methods, captures the essence and exuberance of Spanish cuisine.

The unanimous highlight of the night was the seared scallop with chili caramel, coconut tapioca, crispy smoked chicken skin and lime juice.

The night culminated in the viewing of the Eat St. segment. It showcased what El Gastronomo Vagabundo does best, serve up original gourmet street food in a friendly and approachable way. A big congratulations to Tamara and Adam on all of their success!
