NEW DELHI: Food and beverages sector is the largest employer among unorganised enterprises, even though apparel and fur dyeing units are more in number, according to an official survey. The survey on Unorganised Manufacturing Enterprises in India, released on Friday by the National Sample Survey Organisation, said Food and Beverages sector employs as many as 6.345 million workers in 2.602 million units. On the other hand, the apparel and fur dyeing sector engages 4.929 million people with 3.213 million entities, accounting for 19 per cent of the units in the unorganised sector. Tobacco products manufacturing units had a share of 16 per cent, providing employment to 12 per cent of those engaged in the the unorganised sector, the survey said.
